WRITING HIGH SCHOOL

The new me is writing high school.

And ghosts, of course. Well, dead people anyway. I've been waiting for the signed contracts to arrive at my agent's office to announce the deal. I forget how PW does this, but it goes something like:

DEAD SCHOOL, a fantastic debut Young Adult novel (Okay, okay, I added the fantastic ) by Randy Russell, acquired by Erica Sussman of Harper/Collins for Summer 2011 release as a HarperTeen imprint hardcover, through Stephanie MacLean, Trident Media Group.

DEAD SCHOOL is my working title. Luck of the world, a new Marvel Comics series will come out in a few months under that title and off I'll go looking for a new one. :-)

VERY exciting, Ghostie!! Can't wait to read it - and can't wait to have you autograph it for me. You're an inspiration - yay you!

Excellent, GF! I love good YA novels and will add this to my list. :)

Would love to know how you experienced the differences between writing your other works and writing in a teen voice.

Cheers!

Wonderful! Like Maria, I'm curious about writing in a teen voice.

That working title is great. Don't let anyone steal it:)

Congratulations, fellow 2k11er! I found your site and your blog. :) I love ghost stories and always have, so I am psyched about your new book. But the previous two look pretty great too...

Congrats, Ghostie! I think I'd have bought it just for the title when I was in high school… "Dead School" was a goal to aspire to in those days. :-)

Randy--WTG! Best wishes... Look carefully at your title. I just read DEADLY LITTLE SECRETS & LITTLE DEAD GIRLS....I like your title, but there are several "dead" titles out there. Again...can't wait to see your book on the shelf. :)

Thanks for the kind comments, all. I'll post something about teen voice shortly. Or have a guest do it. :-)

Hi, Sharon. Thanks for finding my blog site (it's pretty well hidden).

Titles are so hard! Lots of "DEAD" and, righ now "UNDEAD" out there. Yup. I still kind of like my combination, but it has more to do with the content than with just the two words put together.

Randy--Yet, I keep buying books with Dead, death, Die, or Dieing in the title. :)
